If you grew up having to wear old-fashioned metal braces, you probably don’t remember the treatment fondly. Sure, they will straighten teeth, but there’s no way of hiding them. Thankfully, these days there’s a far more discrete option— Invisalign.
Everyone wants straight teeth, but most of us don’t want metal braces.
Fortunately, you no longer have to compromise. Invisalign & clear aligners are an effective, affordable, and comfortable way to straighten your smile without metal braces or wires.
Invisalign is a simple technique that does away with the need for metal braces. Naturally, you have to consider the Invisalign pros and cons before making your final decision.
The main advantage is that Invisalign is inconspicuous and removable while traditional options are not. Most people would need to look pretty closely at your mouth to see them. The con is that they are slightly more expensive than metal braces.
Regular braces cost between $2,500 and $6,000, while Invisalign braces cost between $3,500 and $6,500. Fortunately, most insurance companies will consider covering Invisalign as well.
You start with a visit to our offices. We will then conduct a thorough inspection of your teeth and give you an honest evaluation. We'll check what results can be realistically expected.
We’ll then create a customized treatment schedule for you. This lays out every step of the plan going forward. We’ll give you an idea of the Invisalign before and after results that you can expect. Once you’re on-board, we spring into action.
We’ll have a set of aligners created to make the necessary adjustments. These will be made to fit your mouth exactly. You’ll need to keep them in place for at least twenty hours a day, preferably twenty-two hours.
You’ll be asked to come in on a weekly or bi-weekly basis to get the aligners changed out. This will ensure that your teeth are gently shifted to their new position, and will continue until you have the results that you always wanted.
That is going to depend on your circumstances and what we’re working with. If your case is complex, or you need significant adjustments, it will take longer. Generally, though, you're looking at a twelve to eighteen-month period. We can tell you more accurately when you come in to see us for your first consultation.
Once the aligners can be permanently removed, you’ll still have to wear a retainer. The retainer will help to keep your teeth in their new position. Initially, you’ll have to wear it full-time. After a few months, though, you’ll be able to switch over to wearing it only overnight or a few hours daily.
Invisalign and other clear aligners look like a night guard that you wear over your teeth. It’s completely invisible and thin enough that it won’t usually affect your speech. In addition to being discreet, these clear aligners also speed up the process of straightening your teeth.
Getting an Invisalign aligner is a painless process. The thin plastic aligner moves your teeth by applying gradual but constant pressure to move them into the proper position. It may take a few days to get used to, but once you’re accustomed to wearing them, don’t be surprised if you forget you have them entirely. Just don’t forget to take them out for eating and drinking!
Unlike braces, you can remove your Invisalign aligner for important events like job interviews, playing instruments, sporting events and more. As long as you wear them for at least 20 to 22 hours per day, you’ll still get the full effects of treatment.
Invisalign is completely safe and the materials used in your aligner are BPA-free. There’s also no trace of latex, parabens, phthalates or epoxy. The technology was developed in 1997 and received FDA approval in 1998.
In addition to Invisalign, our dentists offer a full range of comprehensive adult orthodontic services.
Clear aligners are similarly priced to braces. Further, the cost may be fully or partially covered under your insurance plan. Some patients opt to use an FSA or use one of our in house payment plans as well.
